"Weedgie or Weegie is a disparaging name used by some to refer to people from Glasgow in Scotland. It is a contraction of the much more formal "Glaswegian", an adjective referring to Glasgow.
An informal and, to some, insulting term in Scotland, it can be heard regularly on radio stations such as Talk 107 or in the books of Irvine Welsh although it is too colloquial to be read in 'quality' newspapers such as The Scotsman or The Herald.
In the public sector this term is considered offensive."
